CHENNAI: DMK MLA and former Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan was arrested by Athur police on Friday after the Madras High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea in a case relating to his alleged remarks against Chief Minister Vijay.
According to a Daily Thanthi report, the case stems from a DMK public meeting held at Athur in Thoothukudi district on June 20, where Anitha Radhakrishnan allegedly made defamatory and controversial remarks against the Chief Minister and also criticised his conduct in the Assembly.
Based on a complaint lodged by TVK functionaries, Athur police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Tiruchendur MLA had approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The petition came up for hearing before Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan on Friday.
Dismissing the plea, the judge questioned why a sitting MLA should make such remarks and refused to grant anticipatory bail.
Following the dismissal of his anticipatory bail petition, Athur police arrested Anitha Radhakrishnan in connection with the case.
Anitha Radhakrishnan is the DMK MLA from Tiruchendur and had served as the Minister for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare in the previous DMK government.
