Vellore gets TAEI to reduce fatalities post accidents

The Tamil Nadu Accident Emergency Initiative (TAEI) was inaugurated on Friday at Vellore Government Medical College and Hospital. State Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, who participated in the event said, the government has plans to extend the facilities to other districts.

During the inauguration — TAEI, hemoglobinopathy lab, district early intervention centre, cath lab and a hemodialysis extension centre were launched – at an estimated cost of Rs 14.50 crore. The minister said, “The TAEI facility was first initiated at Chennai’s Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. This reduced accident fatality from 8.6 per cent to 2.8 per cent in six months. The State now plans to launch the facility in 75 locations at Rs 190 crore.”


Speaking about the job opportunities, Vijayabaskar said that 2345 nurses, 72 experts in yoga and naturopathy would be appointed shortly. “Similarly, 1884 doctors who were recruited on merit basis will be appointed soon.”


Meanwhile, Anaicut MLA Nandakumar staged a walk out during the event reportedly because his name was not mentioned in the banner erected for TAEI inauguration. To this the minister said, “The MLA has not raised adequate funds for the facility from his constituency.”


Medical college dean Dr R Shantimalar, medical superintendent Rajavelu, resident medical officer K Inbaraj, MLAs S Ravi (Arkonam) and G Loganathan (KV Kuppam) and sub collector K Meghraj were present.
