CHENNAI: Actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has decided to sharply intensify its political outreach to make inroads into the core voter base of the AIADMK, leveraging the enduring legacy and mass appeal of former Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by party founder-president Vijay at his Pattinapakkam residence here on Saturday. Senior leaders, N Anand, KA Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna and KG Arunraj, were present at the brainstorming meeting.

According to party insiders, the nearly three-hour deliberations focused on expanding TVK's footprint in traditional AIADMK strongholds.

As part of this strategy, the party has decided to hold a major public meeting in Salem in January 2026, the home turf of AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

"Vijay will be travelling abroad later this month for the promotions of his final film, Jana Nayagan, scheduled for a Pongal release. Ahead of that, we reviewed the party's next course of action. While the DMK remains our principal political rival, we believe there is a vacuum on the ground where the AIADMK has weakened.

Its core voters now see hope in Vijay," a senior TVK leader told DT Next.

The meeting also resolved to constitute key organisational panels, including a special committee to handle electoral alliance negotiations and a separate committee to draft the party's election manifesto.

Sources said leaders additionally discussed the draft electoral rolls released as part of the Special Intensive Revision.

The cadre will be instructed to verify entries, assist eligible voters left out of the rolls and ensure maximum enrolment ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, TVK on Saturday temporarily relieved Namakkal (east) district secretary JJ Senthilnathan following allegations linked to a video circulating on social media. General secretary N Anand said Vijay had ordered an immediate inquiry and strict action after being briefed on the issue.
