CHENNAI: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday criticised the State government and the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) for failing to release the 2026 examination schedule, warning that continued delays could push nearly four lakh teachers and aspirants into uncertainty and job insecurity.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Anbumani said the TRB's failure to announce the schedule for competitive and eligibility examinations for teachers in government schools, colleges and universities reflects "gross negligence and irresponsibility." He noted that exam calendars are usually released by December of the previous year to allow candidates to prepare systematically.
Highlighting that a large number of teaching posts are expected to fall vacant in 2026, Anbumani stressed that early notification is crucial, especially since examinations cannot be conducted once the election code of conduct comes into force. He also pointed out that notifications for recruiting 1,205 postgraduate teachers and 51 block education officers, due in 2025, are yet to be issued, causing deep disappointment among aspirants.
Anbumani expressed serious concern over teachers appointed before 2011 who have not cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Following a Supreme Court ruling mandating eligibility within a fixed period, nearly four lakh teachers face the risk of compulsory retirement. He accused the DMK government of repeatedly changing its stance, first promising a review petition, then announcing special TET, and later seeking legal amendments without taking concrete action.
The PMK leader urged the government to immediately announce a simplified special TET with reduced qualifying marks and release the 2026 exam schedule without delay. "Teachers who trusted the government should not be left stranded," he said, calling for urgent steps to safeguard their future.
