Minister SS Sivasankar reviews actions taken on complaints received from consumers at ‘Minnagam’
CHENNAI: Transport and Electricity Minister SS Sivasankar, on Saturday, reviewed complaints received from the public in light of the impact of ongoing scorching heat, severe thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall reported in various districts.
Inspecting 'Minnagam' – the 24x7 electricity consumer grievance redressal centre functioning at the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) headquarters, Sivasankar also examined the current swift response mechanisms.
“To handle the increasing volume of complaints efficiently, the number of staff at Minnagam was increased from 65 to 94 on May 5, 2025. Complaints are primarily received through the helpline number 94987 94987,” he said.
Since its inception, Minnagam has received 35,27,939 complaints. Of which 35,16,155 – representing 99.67 per cent of complaints – have been addressed. On average, approximately 2,502 complaints are registered every day, and around 75,063 are received every month.
During the inspection, the minister instructed officials to pay special attention to areas experiencing frequent disruptions and to identify and resolve underlying issues without delay. He further directed that all necessary measures be taken to ensure an uninterrupted and stable power supply and also instructed that every grievance received from the public is acted upon with urgency.
Sivasankar reiterated that there is no gap between electricity demand and supply in the State. He added that a seamless, three-phase power supply is being maintained across the State. TNPDCL has undertaken all necessary precautionary steps to meet the increased summer demand as well as to prepare for the upcoming North-East monsoon season.
