TN CM Stalin presents Nammazhvar awards to three farmers for excellence in organic farming
Instituted by the state government in memory of renowned organic farming scientist Nammazhvar, the award recognises the outstanding contributions of farmers in the field of organic agriculture.

CHENNAI:Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday distributed Nammazhvar Awards for 2025 to three members for promoting organic farming in the state.
Stalin handed over the first prize, comprising a Rs 2.50 lakh cash prize and a medal worth Rs 10,000 to K Sampathkumar of Coimbatore and the second prize, carrying a Rs 1.50 lakh prize and a medal worth Rs 7,000 to T Jagadeesh of Tirupur.
The third prize, consisting of a Rs 1 lakh cash prize and a medal worth Rs 5,000 was presented to V Kalidas of Nagapattinam at a function held at the State Secretariat.
The award was announced in the agriculture budget 2023-25 by the State government, which instituted the award in the name of organic farming expert and environmental activist Nammazhvar in recognition of his contribution to organic farming.
The State government presented the award in 2024 to three farmers, acknowledging their contribution to organic farming.
The Chief Minister also distributed appointment orders to 10 persons who were among the 151 candidates recruited for the posts of junior assistants and stenographers in the state agriculture department.
State Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam, State Chief Secretary N Muruganandam and Commissioner of Agriculture Production V Dakshinamurthy also took part in the function.
According to a release issued by the government, over 2,060 persons were recruited for various posts in the state agriculture department since the formation of the government in May 2021.
To recall, Agriculture Minister Panneerselvam said awareness on organic farming and related technologies will be created for farmers across 37 districts. Besides, exposure visits to organic farms will be organised for 38,600 higher secondary school and college students in Tamil Nadu.
