TN CM Stalin opposes amendment to FCRA, alleges proposed move attack on minority institutions

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday strongly condemned the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act and alleged it was a direct attack on Christian NGOs, churches and other minority institutions.

Stalin, also the president of the ruling DMK, said: "I strongly condemn the Foreign Contribution Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, proposed by the Union BJP Government, which is a direct attack on Christian NGOs, Churches and other minority institutions. After attempts to take over Waqf properties, the Union BJP Government is now moving to choke foreign funding for other minority institutions."

Further, ïn a social media post, Stalin said: "Despite stepping back for now due to Opposition protests and the upcoming elections in Kerala, where Christians live in large numbers, there are clear plans to push #FCRA (amendment) through in a special session of Parliament. This unjust, arbitrary Bill must be withdrawn in full, and I urge the @PMOIndia to act immediately."
