Tamil Nadu: Poll year's 1st session ends on January 24

CHENNAI: The maiden session of the year of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (TNLA), which began on Tuesday, will continue till January 24.

Speaker M Appavu made an announcement to this effect among media persons in his chamber after the day's proceedings of the House began on a stormy note, with Governor RN Ravi not reading the government's address in protest of the non-rendering of the national anthem at the beginning of the address.

Talking to media persons after chairing the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, Speaker Appavu said that on Wednesday, the House will make obituary references for deceased former legislators and adopt condolence resolutions for deceased MLA K Ponnusamy and former leader of the Lok Sabha Shivraj Patil, veteran filmmaker AVM Saravanan.

The House would debate on the governor's address for three days from January 22. The first session would be wound up on Saturday with the reply to the debate on the Governor's address and passage of bills.
