He was chosen for the award by the Indian Students Parliament of the MIT World Peace University, Pune, which has instituted awards for young political leaders in thecountry annually.

After accepting the award, Ansari said he was proud about being chosen for the award which has been given for the first time to anyone in Tamil Nadu and he considered it as an award to theentire state.

He said the CAA, NPR and NRC are also “black measures” and violative of theConstitution.

Ansari, an MLA elected on the AIADMK symbol, said he has visited Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi where Muslim women are protesting against the CAA and said similar protests are being staged in several places in Tamil Nadu.

He said these protests are being held by people on their own without any involvement of political parties and sensing the mood of the people, the Centre should withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act.

His party’s conference would be held in Coimbatore on February 29, which would take an “important” decision on the protests, he added.
