TEQIP Phase III to be implemented in TN colleges

To upgrade infrastructure facilities for the students in government technical colleges in the State, the phase three scheme of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), a World Bank-funded project, will be implemented.

TEQIP, is being implemented by Ministry for Human Resources Development (MHRD), in the State since 2009 in a phased manner for improving the infrastructure facilities in the institutions. The MHRD will soon release funds for Tamil Nadu as it implemented both phase one and two successfully.


Accordingly, each college will get Rs 7 crore, which will be used for providing skill training for the students, improving infrastructure facilities, get national institute of ranking framework certificate and training for hackathon programme besides utilising for research activities.


A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) said that since the government colleges have performed well in TEQIP phase two, the MHRD have given permission to the State to implement the third phase of the programme.


“Tamil Nadu is one among the few States in the country to get the permission for implementing TEQIP phase three, since most of the other States could not complete even the first phase of TEQIP programme successfully,” he claimed.


The official added that under the TEQUIP programme, internship training, GATE coaching, employability skill training will be provided to the students free of cost.


“The existing laboratories will be modernised and new workshops will be held regularly by industrial experts. Infrastructure of the institution will be improved by utlising the Centre’s funds to get national institute of ranking frame work certificate,” he said.


The official added that more than 50 various technical research proposals will be taken up by the colleges and the State has spent nearly Rs 142 crore under TEQIP phase one and two programme for improving the infrastructure facilities in the State-run institutions.
