CHENNAI: Launching a scathing attack on the ruling DMK over violent incidents reported across Tamil Nadu, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday alleged a complete collapse of law and order.
Citing two recent crimes involving extreme violence and sexual assault, allegedly fuelled by substance abuse, the BJP leader asked the incumbent take moral responsibility, fearing that "Tamil Nadu is being pushed towards a Jungle Raj."
Referring to a shocking incident near the Thiruthani railway station in Tiruvallur district, Nainar Nagenthran said a migrant worker was brutally attacked with machetes by four minors aged 17, reportedly under the influence of ganja. Disturbingly, the assailants allegedly filmed the assault and circulated it as a social media reel.
"Teenagers who should be going to college with dreams are instead roaming with deadly weapons under the influence of drugs. This reflects a dangerous social decay, " he said in a statement.
The BJP leader further alleged that the glorification of violence and easy access to narcotics had pushed society towards fear and insecurity, accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin of failing to address real issues while relying on publicity-driven governance.
Citing another incident from Kalugur near Kulithalai in Karur district, Nainar expressed anguish over reports that an intoxicated youth sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl.
Calling it unbearable as a father, he said crimes against women were rising under what he termed the Tasmac-driven governance model, and questioned the government's commitment to women's safety.
Former BJP state president K Annamalai also condemned the Thiruthani attack, identifying the victim as Suraj, a migrant worker from Maharashtra. He said the assault reflected a deeper rot, marked by rampant drug availability, normalisation of violence, and the casual carrying of lethal weapons.
