

The Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme (KKIS) is a housing programme launched by the Tamil Nadu government in 2024. The primary objective of the scheme is to provide free permanent concrete houses to economically weaker families living in huts or dilapidated houses in rural areas of the state.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance from the government to construct a permanent house with basic amenities.

Estimated construction cost of Rs 3.50 lakh per house
Targeted mainly at rural hut-dwelling families
Land will be provided to beneficiaries who do not own land
Applications can be submitted at Village Panchayat Offices or Block Development Offices
Applicants must meet the following conditions to qualify for the scheme:
Must be a resident of Tamil Nadu
Family should be living in a hut or unsafe dwelling
Must belong to the economically weaker section
Should not own a permanent (pucca) house anywhere in Tamil Nadu

Applications are currently offline only and handled through local government offices.

Request the application or express interest to the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) or Panchayat officials.
Step 3: Document submission
Submit all required documents such as Aadhaar card, ration card, and income certificate.

Government officials will conduct a field inspection to verify:

Step 5: Beneficiary selection
Eligible applicants will be shortlisted based on priority categories and government norms.
Step 6: Approval and house construction
Once approved, funds will be released in phases and construction will begin under government supervision.
