CHENNAI: To provide information and opportunities related to all government schemes for women and women entrepreneurs, the Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety Scheme (TNWESafe) website was launched on Wednesday.
Additionally, a State-wide campaign called ‘SHE LEADS’ to support women in gaining skills, formal employment, entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities, was also launched during the final day of the ‘Global Women’s Summit’.
An official with the Department of Special Programme Implementation (SPID) said, “The website is vital because it will provide women entrepreneurs and aspirants access to financial assistance and skill training provided by the government. We anticipate the website will come handy for women living in both urban and rural regions of the State.”
The official also added that the campaign will focus more on women willing to try entrepreneurship or even consider employment. “No matter the scale of the business or type of venture women want to take up, be it business or regular employment, the campaign will aid them. For women already in the field, the campaign can support them to aim for leadership positions, where women are fewer,” the official pointed out.
Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin launched these initiatives on the final day of the summit. Also, in his presence, MoUs were signed between the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation (TNCDW) and leading banks regarding the provision of business loans to women entrepreneurs. He also presented appointment orders to women entering the private workforce and cheques for different loan amounts to women entrepreneurs from Chennai and Perambalur.
Subsequently, he presented a cheque for Rs 11.75 lakh as subsidy to Mithuna from Chengalpattu district for setting up a hospital and clinic under the New Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS), and a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to Srikala Sukumar from Kancheepuram under the Innovation Voucher Scheme of the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Corporation.
