CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu recorded its highest-ever solar power generation and all-time solar energy consumption on Wednesday (April 1), even as overall power demand rose sharply amid intensifying summer conditions.
According to data from Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited, solar energy consumption by the State grid touched an all-time high of 56.9 million units (MU), surpassing the previous record of 55.60 MU recorded on March 27.
The State also evacuated 7,693 MW of solar power, marking an all-time high generation on Wednesday, aided by clear skies and the absence of rainfall. The previous highest solar generation stood at 7,604 MW, recorded on March 24.
Since the last week of March, the State has been consistently witnessing peak solar generation exceeding 7,000 MW. The installed solar power generation capacity in the State currently stands at 11,697 MW.
Solar power generators attributed the record generation and consumption to favourable weather conditions, including bright sunlight and cloud-free skies.
