Tamil Nadu: Over 200 sovereign of gold, Rs 60 L stolen from two houses

CHENNAI: Unidentified intruders decamped with over 200 sovereign gold ornaments and Rs 60 lakh currency from two houses in Sriperumbudur and Uthiramerur on Sunday.
In one incident, intruders gained entry into the house of Muthu Perumal (45) of Raghavendra Road in SJ Nagar in Sriperumbudur, who works in the private Siddha Medical College.
On Sunday morning, Muthu had gone out with his family. When they returned home in the evening, he was shocked to see the main door broken. He also noted 180 sovereign gold ornaments and Rs 60 lakh cash kept inside the two cupboards were missing.
Soon, he alerted the Sriperumbudur police, who visited the spot and browsed CCTV footage. They found two men arriving at the house on a bike around 12 pm and entering the house by breaking the door and escaping after around 30 minutes with the valuables.
The Sriperumbudur police have registered a case and are searching for the suspects.
In another incident, Boobalan of Peru Nagar in Uthiramerur had gone to his native in Tiruvannamalai with his family two days ago. On Sunday evening, when they returned home, they found the main door broken, and 24 sovereign gold ornaments missing.
Peru Nagar police visited the spot and have registered a case and the search is on to nab the intruders.
