CHENNAI: Hours after his wedding was called off on the day on which his engagement was supposed to happen, a 28-year-old man was clobbered to death with an iron rod by his own father after he fought with the latter at their house in Chengalpattu on Saturday night. Following this, the Chengalpattu district police arrested his father.
The police said the accused man had beaten his son on the head with an iron rod, which led to instant death.
The deceased was identified as Wesley (28). Police said that Wesley was working as a food delivery executive, and his father, Jansen, is a driver.
"The family had fixed a marriage alliance for Wesley with a woman from the same neighbourhood.
The engagement was supposed to be on Saturday. But, the bride's family called off the wedding," a police officer said. Sources said that the bride's family learnt about Wesley's alleged drinking habit and called off the proposal.
Upset over this, Wesley argued with his parents and called them names. Furious over this, Jansen attacked his son with the iron rod. One of the blows was to the head, which killed him instantly.
The Chengalpattu Taluk police recovered Wesley's body and sent it to a government hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and Jansen was arrested.
