COIMBATORE: Deputy Chief Minister on Tuesday said with 11.19 per cent growth, Tamil Nadu has emerged as India’s top-performing state because of the schemes implemented by the Dravidian model of government.

“Tamil Nadu has drawn national attention for its Dravidian model of governance,” he said after inaugurating a hockey stadium constructed in international standards at Rs 9.67 crore in Coimbatore.

Earlier, Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated an elephant camp and unveiled modernisation initiatives for the forest department aimed at improving wildlife care and conservation efforts. He also laid the foundation stone for new projects, unveiled completed projects and distributed welfare aid to beneficiaries.

Stating that former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and current Chief Minister MK Stalin always had a special focus on Coimbatore, Udhayanidhi Stalin said from the day of assuming office, the Chief Minister has insisted that welfare schemes should be inclusive and benefit all sections of society.

“Not only those who voted, but our model of governance should make even those who didn’t vote regret their decision,” he said.

Listing out various women-oriented schemes like free bus travel under ‘vidiyal payanam’, ‘pudhumai penn’ scheme, ‘mahalir urimai thogai’ scheme, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government is focused on delivering welfare schemes towards empowerment of women. He also announced that ten lakh laptops will be given to college students in a few days.
