CHENNAI: The State Assembly on Saturday passed a Bill to extend the appeal period for private schools against the fee structure fixed by the government-appointed committee.

The Bill, tabled by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, was adopted by a voice vote. It provides for amendments to the functioning of the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee.

As per the amendment, the committee will now include a parent representative from the Tamil Nadu State Parent Teachers Association and a government officer not below the rank of Deputy Secretary.

The appeal period has been extended from the existing 15 days to 30 days from the date of receipt of the committee’s decision.

The government said the amendment aims to ensure transparency and provide adequate opportunity for schools to present their case while safeguarding the interests of parents.
