Tambaram-Karaikal-Velankanni section sees new trains, route changes, cancellations

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has announced new train services, along with extensions, restoration and re-routing of existing trains in the Tambaram-Karaikal-Velankanni-Mayiladuthurai sections to improve connectivity.

What changes are being made to existing train services?

  • Tambaram-Karaikal Express (16175/16176) will be re-routed via the Peralam-Karaikal section and extended up to Velankanni from May 20.

  • Tiruchirapalli-Velankanni DEMU (76825/76826) will be restored and extended up to Karaikal, operating as a Tiruchirapalli-Karaikal passenger from May 20 (from Tiruchirapalli) and May 21 (from Karaikal).

  • A new Velankanni-Mayiladuthurai daily passenger (56007/56008) via Karaikal-Peralam will be introduced from May 20 (from Mayiladuthurai) and May 21 (from Velankanni).

What train services are being cancelled?

  • Velankanni-Nagapattinam DEMU (76838) and Nagapattinam-Karaikal DEMU (76818) will be cancelled from May 20, 2026.

  • Karaikal-Nagapattinam DEMU (76817) and Nagapattinam-Velankanni DEMU (76837) will be cancelled from May 21, 2026.
