Suspected burglars tied to tree, beaten up by mob

Two teenagers, suspected to be burglars, were tied to a tree and beaten up by the public in Guduvanchery in Kancheepuram on Sunday evening. The police had to chase away the public to rescue two 18-year-old boys from the mob.

The incident happened in Madambakkam village in Guduvanchery after a house, belonging to Abdul Hameed, was found burgled on Sunday morning. The inmates had gone to Madurai when the burglary took place. At least 24 sovereigns and more than Rs 50,000 were stolen.


Residents and the house owner started questioning two youngsters, identified as Imran and Mohanraj, residing in the neighbourhood. People claimed that the duo gave contradictory answers when enquired and decided that they carried out the burglary. The teens were already accused in two cases, including theft, said sources.


The mob tied them to a tree and started beating with sticks while another group ransacked their house. Public claimed they saw ganja packets inside the house. On information, police were sent to the spot to rescue the teenagers from the mob. The police took the two youths on a bike to the police station, making the duo sit sandwiched between two cops.


The police, who have also secured some villagers, said that action would be initiated against those who attacked the duo and ransacked their house, as videos of the incident were available on social media to identify the mob.
