TIRUCHY: Sugarcane farmers from Thanjavur waved a black flag against the Chief Minister on Wednesday for failing to disburse their pending dues by the Thiru Arooran Sugar factory.
While Chief Minister MK Stalin was on the way to take part in the IUML conference at Kumbakonam, a section of sugarcane farmers who had been protesting for their long-pending demands since November 30, 2022, demanded that the Chief Minister instruct the Tirumandangudi Thiru Arooran Sugar Mill to release their pending dues with interest.
As they attempted to wave black flags against the Chief Minister, the police on duty arrested the farmers.
Reacting to the arrest of the farmers, PR Pandian, president of the Coordination Committee of All Farmers Association, said the farmers had been fighting for their rights for the past three years.
They have been tortured by the bank for the loans availed by the sugar firm in their name, and so they were denied crop loans, citing their poor CIBIL score. "The Chief Minister should initiate steps to solve their issues, and the police should release them immediately," he said.
