The consultative meeting was chaired by Additional Divisional Railway Managers CR Harish and R Aaivu in which the members listed a series of grievances that have not been resolved for over a year.
As soon as the meeting commenced, VR Dhanaselan urged the divisional railway to extend the Karaikal-Thanjavur train up to Tiruchy, since there was no other service to Tiruchy after 4.15 pm in the section. The officials promised to send a proposal in this regard to the headquarters.
He added that due to the absence of adequate retiring rooms in Karaikal pilgrims bound for Tirunallar and Tirukadayur were facing severe hardships. The officials said that a fund of Rs 33.60 lakh has been sanctioned for constructing three air-conditioned retiring rooms and one non-AC room, at Karaikal station.
Meanwhile, S Selvaraj urged to attach a special coach for differently abled persons in Rockfort express and the officials detailed that the provision of LHB rake for Rockfort express was a policy matter, so it would be forwarded to the headquarters for consideration of the demand.
During the meeting, the Additional Divisional Railway Managers briefed about the development activities being undertaken and the improvement in passenger amenities over the Division and sought the cooperation of the Members.
