TIRUCHY: As many as 698 bulls and 315 tamers vied with each other in the annual jallikattu at Navalur Kuttapattu, in which 22 persons sustained injuries, and six among them have been referred to the Government Hospital on Monday.
As per the tradition, the annual jallikattu at Navalur Kuttapattu in Srirangam constituency used to be held on Thai 5, and thus, the event was organised in the village in which 750 bulls were brought for the medical assessment, among which as many as 698 bulls were allowed, and 315 tamers who were divided into six batches took part in the event.
Srirangam MLA M Palaniyandi flagged off the event after the tamers took oath and the bulls were released one by one, and as many as 22 persons, including 10 spectators, sustained injuries. Among the injured, six persons were referred to the GH, while the others were given first aid in the event venue.
The tamers were distributed with household articles and electronic goods as prizes. Around 200 police personnel were deployed for security duty, and a medical team was stationed near the venue along with ambulances.
