DINDIGUL: Rows of red, yellow, pink and white roses stretching across the hillsides of Kodaikanal’s Observatory area are drawing large crowds of tourists, who are stopping to capture the seasonal bloom through photographs and selfies.
The 10-acre rose park, considered among the largest in India, has begun witnessing its annual flowering season, with lakhs of roses blooming across more than 15,000 plants.
The flowering period, which usually peaks between May and July, has started despite below-normal rainfall this year.
Visitors walking through the park spent time around the flower beds and artificial fountains, while battery-operated vehicles ferried tourists across the sprawling premises.
Park manager Parthasarathy said the flowering season had begun even though rainfall had been inadequate. He stated that continued blooming till the end of July would depend on sufficient rain in the coming weeks.
He added that facilities required for tourists had been arranged at the park, which has been witnessing steady footfall in recent days.
