COIMBATORE: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday stressed that restoring the Noyyal river is crucial for the welfare of farmers in the region.

Speaking to the media at Coimbatore International Airport, Radhakrishnan highlighted the significance of reviving the river to help farmers.

The Noyyal river, which originates in the Western Ghats and flows through Tirupur to reach the Cauvery in Karur, should be restored. It will be a major help for farmers in the Thanjavur region too

Earlier, the Vice President, who arrived from Delhi, was welcomed by Minister of Prohibition and Excise S Muthusamy, Member of Parliament Ganapathi P Rajkumar, District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar and other officials in the presence of BJP leaders at the airport.

He is scheduled to inaugurate the new building of a private hospital in Coimbatore and participate in a function of another private hospital on Thursday.

In view of the Vice President’s visit, flying of drones has been banned, and many parts of the city have been brought under a thick security control. Also, vehicle checks and patrolling have been intensified to prevent any untoward incidents.
