TIRUCHY: A senior citizen passenger was attacked by a private bus driver in Tiruchy for asking him not to drive at high speed, and the police arrested him on Friday after the video went viral across the region.
It is said that a Srirangam-based private bus named ‘Shankar’ (TN 45 BP 5345) was being operated from the Central bus stand to Kalaignar Karunanidhi Bus Terminus in Panjapur. On Thursday evening, the bus driver, Anburaj, a resident of E-Pudhur, was driving at a high speed and he was about to stop the bus at a threatening speed at the Panjapur bus stand.
When a senior citizen passenger asked the bus crew to slow down, the driver, Anburaj, had reportedly increased the speed to threaten him. The shocked senior citizen got off the bus and was moving slowly.
The driver, who alighted from the bus, abused the senior citizen and suddenly slapped him in the presence of the conductor and the other passengers.
A co-passenger who video recorded it had spread it across social media, which went viral on Friday. Subsequently, the police registered a case against Anburaj and arrested him.
