CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) election campaign public meeting at Maduranthakam in Chengalpattu district on Friday, January 23, before returning to New Delhi the same evening.

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will travel from Thiruvananthapuram by private aircraft, departing at 1.15 pm and arriving at Chennai airport at 2.15 pm. He will then take a helicopter at 2.25 pm and reach the Maduranthakam public meeting venue by 3 pm.

The rally is scheduled from 3 pm to 4.30 pm, during which Modi will deliver a special address. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, GK Vasan, John Pandian and other NDA alliance leaders are expected to attend.

After the event, the Prime Minister will depart Maduranthakam by helicopter at 4.30 pm, reach Chennai airport by 5 pm, and leave for New Delhi by private aircraft at 5.05 pm.

Officials said Modi’s total movement in Tamil Nadu has been restricted to around two and three-quarter hours, during which he will use only special aircraft and helicopter services, avoiding road travel.

Ahead of the visit, a Special Protection Group (SPG) team from New Delhi, led by an Assistant Inspector General, arrived in Chennai to review security arrangements. The team conducted an Advance Security Liaison (ASL) meeting at Chennai airport on Tuesday (January 20).

Senior officials from the Chennai city police, Central Industrial Security Force, district revenue department, airport authorities, Central and State intelligence agencies, VIP security officials, and medical and fire services attended the meeting.

The SPG team inspected the aircraft parking area, helicopter landing zone, and security surveillance deployment. It was also decided to place Chennai airport under full security cover for four days, from January 20 to January 23.

The team is scheduled to visit Maduranthakam to inspect the public meeting venue and helicopter landing area.
