CHENNAI: A petition has been filed before the Madras High Court seeking the transfer of investigation in 41 cases registered in connection with alleged irregularities in Tasmac to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Several irregularities were alleged in connection with the functioning of Tasmac liquor outlets in the State, including the sale of liquor at inflated prices and the grant of bar licences.
In this regard, J Delli Babu of Kancheepuram has filed a petition before the Madras High Court seeking the transfer of the investigation in 41 cases registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) between 2017 and 2024 to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
When the matter came up for hearing before a division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and G Arul Murugan, counsel for the petitioner contended that the Tamil Nadu government had approached the Supreme Court challenging the action initiated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) based on these 41 cases and had obtained a stay on the ED investigation.
As a result, it was argued, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department would not conduct a fair probe, and hence the cases should be transferred to the CBI.
Appearing for the Tamil Nadu government, the Advocate General PS Raman submitted that a similar petition seeking the same relief had already been filed in May last year.
Taking note of the submissions, the judges directed that the present petition be tagged along with the earlier one and posted the matter for further hearing on January 22.
