“The brutal rape and murder of woman doctor in Hyderabad is a very shocking incident. No one would have disagreed with the demand for the maximum punishment for the four accused. Rather than punishing the accused through the court of law, the police has taken upon itself to kill the criminals through encounter. The killing of all the four through encounter is nothing but a planned murder. It is totally unacceptable,” Balakrishnan told reporters here.

All four accused in the rape-and-murder of a 25-year-old woman veterinarian last month were shot at by police on Friday morning. Telangana police confirmed that all four accused in the Hyderabad gang rape and murder case were gunned down by the police when they allegedly tried to escape. The police had taken the accused to the crime scene to recreate the incident at around 4 am. Police stated that one of the accused tried to snatch the policeman’s gun and pelt them with stones to allegedly escape from custody.

To a query, the CPM leader clarified that his party was not against the culprits being punished. “We want the accused to be convicted by the court of law. But the police taking law onto its hands would only lead to even the innocent being killed in such a way,” he added.
