CHENNAI: A private school has moved the Madras High Court challenging a show cause notice for allowing an RSS Seva Bharati camp on its premises.
A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) camp was conducted in December at Sri Saraswathi Vidyalaya Nursery and Primary School in Cuddalore. The school had permitted the use of its playground for the camp from December 24 to 30.
The school stated that the camp was held during the school holidays, when the institution was not functioning, and students were at home.
It further submitted that the camp included training programmes aimed at enhancing mental and physical strength, such as yoga, patriotism, discipline, and moral education.
However, the police and the School Education Department raised objections to the conduct of the camp.
Subsequently, the Directorate of Private Schools Education issued a show-cause notice dated December 30 to the school.
Challenging the notice, the school's correspondent, S. Surenthiran, filed a petition before the Madras High Court seeking to quash it.
When the matter came up for hearing before Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy, the court directed the Secretary of the School Education Department and the Directorate of Private Schools Education to file their counter-affidavits by February 17 and adjourned the hearing.
