Not all chases end like a Kollywood film
Chennai
For the first time, TN police, which is known for its excellence, lost its Inspector in an operation in another state. As reports emerged on what transpired in Rampurkalan, police sources claimed that it appeared that the police team which went to Rajasthan to nab suspects in the Kolathur gold heist had got its priorities mixed up. “At least, that is what the information emerging from there reveals,” a source said.
While the burglary suspects reportedly had no guns, the gang had used a police gun to shoot Inspector Periyapandian to death. “The Chennai police team had no local police assistance. Without local police assistance, it is always difficult to liaison with colonies of criminals. At least one of the team members should be familiar with the language of the state, where the team is visiting,” said a senior police officer.
In the Tuesday night operation, the Chennai police team reportedly was under the impression that they could pick up the wanted men from the village easily, because four criminals were already picked up from the same village last week.
A police official, who was part of nabbing the Bawaria gang, which killed 13 people in Tamil Nadu in a 10-year period, to rob valuables, noted that maintaining contact with local police is necessary in such operations. “The team should have discussed all possibilities, including the use of firearms, before stepping into such criminal dominated areas. A policeman should not face a situation where his gun falls into the hands of his enemy,” the officer added.
