TIRUCHY: Clarifying reports about his meeting with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TaVK) chief T Velmurugan said it was an accidental encounter during a journey and had been misinterpreted.
Speaking to reporters after a party meeting in Karur, the TaVK leader added that their discussion was limited to the reservation policy followed by the previous AIADMK government and the welfare projects implemented during its tenure.
Velmurugan further said the DMK-led alliance enjoyed strong public support in the State, adding that the ruling party had earned goodwill among the people. “There is a bright chance of victory, and our cadres will work with full dedication for the alliance candidates,” he said.
He asserted that the party will remain part of the DMK-led alliance and that its cadres will work intensively to ensure the victory of alliance candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Velmurugan reiterated that TaVK would contest the elections as part of the DMK alliance, dismissing speculation about a shift. He said the ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu was strong and expressed confidence that Chief Minister MK Stalin would allocate a reasonable number of seats to alliance partners.
Commenting on the Congress’s demand for a share in power, Velmurugan said the party was well within its rights to seek power-sharing. However, he pointed out that contradictory statements by Congress leaders on the issue could be a tactical move to bargain for more seats in the Assembly polls.
