CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India has made it clear that January 30 is the final deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, officials said on Monday.
The draft electoral roll was published on December 19, and the Commission has categorically ruled out any further extension of the claims and objections period. There will be no extension beyond January 30, an official said.
Officials clarified that even after the publication of the final electoral roll, voters can continue to apply for inclusion of names using Form 6 and for deletion or objections using Form 7. Such applications can be submitted online through the Election Commission’s website.
If applications are submitted at least 10 days before the last date for filing nominations in an election, the names will be included in the supplementary electoral roll, the official added.
As of January 26, a total of 15.74 lakh applications had been received through Form 6 for inclusion of names in the voter list. Meanwhile, 75,032 applications were submitted through Form 7 seeking the deletion of names or raising objections.
After the completion of the claims and objections process, the final electoral roll will be published on February 17, officials said.
