After receiving a petition against the fake doctor, Chinraj sent three of his loyalists posing as patients to the clinic to confirm if the complaint was genuine. The quack examined the patients and recommended medicines irrelevant to their health complaint, which exposed him.
“I was forced to act as officials from the departments concerned failed to respond on previous complaints. A steady stream of villagers used to visit his clinic daily for treatment. None doubted him as the quack was using the letter pad of a government doctor of a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Punjai Puliampatti. He was running the clinic, with an attached laboratory to test blood samples, for the last 10 years,” the MP said.
When Chinraj questioned the PHC doctor, identified as Selvam, about the misuse of his letter pad, he claimed ignorance. “However, the doctor revealed that Thangaraj was working as his assistant when he was running a clinic at Avathipalayam before joining the government service a few years ago,” he added. The MP handed over the quack to the Pallipalayam police, who after inquiry remanded him in judicial custody on Wednesday.
