Murder accused shot by TN Police after attacking officers in Salem
In an act of self-defence and to prevent his escape, one of the officers fired a service pistol, hitting the accused in the leg. Naresh Kumar collapsed on the spot and was immediately taken into custody.

SALEM: A notorious rowdy from Salem, who had murdered an elderly woman and stole her jewellery, was injured after police opened fire as he attempted to escape, on Saturday.
On May 20, Saraswathi (65), who had gone to graze cows at a field in Deevattipatti village, was found murdered with cut injuries and her jewellery was missing.
The Deevattipatti police, who registered a case and retrieved the body, were searching for the culprit. The police conducted investigations and found that the notorious rowdy R Naresh Kumar from Omalur was behind the crime.
On Saturday, the police received information that Naresh Kumar was hiding at a hillock at Sankari Fort, Soon, a team of police headed by Sub-Inspector Vijayaragavan along with local police (Magudanchavadi) rushed to the spot to arrest Naresh Kumar.
When the police reached the spot and attempted to arrest him, Naresh Kumar grabbed a lethal weapon and attacked sub-inspector Vijayaragavan and constable Selva Kumar. Following this, the Magudanchavadi police opened fire on Naresh Kumar and he suffered an injury on his right leg and fell.
Naresh Kumar and injured police personnel were admitted to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
According to police, Naresh Kumar was a history sheeter against whom more than 20 cases, including murder cases, are pending across several police stations.
