TIRUCHY: The home constituency, Tiruchi West, of senior minister and DMK principal secretary KN Nehru alone saw 57,339 voters removed from the rolls—the highest among the 41 Assembly constituencies in the region—as district-level election officials released draft electoral rolls.
The central region of the State, covering nine districts, accounted for 10.93 lakh deletions from rolls, with Tiruchy district recording the highest at 3.31 lakh.
According to the draft roll, Thanjavur district followed Tiruchy with 2.06 lakh deletions, while Pudukkottai and Tiruvarur recorded 1.29 lakh deletions each. The central region comprises Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur.
Tiruchy and Thanjavur, which together account for 19 Assembly segments, reported the largest deletions in absolute numbers. The region is considered a DMK stronghold, having delivered 37 of the 41 seats in the previous Assembly elections.
Notably, the 57,339 deletions in Tiruchy West nearly matched the total number of voters deleted in the entire Nagapattinam district, which stood at 57,338. The Srirangam constituency recorded the next-highest deletion at 44,148 voters. Tiruchy West has a significant minority voter base, traditionally seen as a key support segment for Minister Nehru.
In the run-up to the SIR exercise, Nehru had held multiple meetings with the party’s Booth Level Agents (BLAs), asking them to closely monitor the revision process, reiterating that the central region remained the DMK’s electoral fortress.
Following the release of the draft roll, the minister has instructed BLAs to assist voters whose names are missing to ensure their re-enrolment during the claims and objections period.
