CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has quashed two election code violation cases registered against Union Minister L Murugan.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, L Murugan had contested as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Nilgiris constituency.

It was alleged that he conducted a public meeting at the Kadanadu community centre without obtaining prior permission, leading to the registration of a case, which is presently pending trial before the Judicial Magistrate Court, Udhagamandalam.

Similarly, another case was registered against him for allegedly convening an election-related meeting in violation of prescribed norms at a school in Sathyamangalam, falling within the same constituency. This case is also pending before the Judicial Magistrate Court, Erode.

L Murugan approached the Madras High Court seeking the quashing of the proceedings.

When the petitions came up for hearing before Justice AD Jagadish Chandira, the Court quashed both criminal proceedings pending against L Murugan in connection with the alleged election code violations.
