CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Revenue Department, Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board and the Greater Chennai Corporation The GCC is urged to hasten the process of clearing encroachments from the Vannan Kulam in Kolathur.
G Devarajan, a Sembium resident, filed a case claiming that approximately 250-350 acres of land in the Vannan Kulam at GKM Colony, Kolathur, had been encroached upon and requested an order for their removal.
When the case came up for hearing before Chief Justice MM Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, a report was filed on behalf of the Ambattur Zonal RDO stating that a substantial portion of the Vannan Kulam had been fully encroached. Following this, the judges directed that all encroachments should be removed on a war-footing, and also instructed the Revenue department, TNUHDB and the GCC accordingly.
They further directed the Commissioner of Land Administration to constitute a committee comprising senior officials from the 3 departments to monitor the implementation of these measures, and disposed the case.
