CHENNAI: CPI state secretary M Veerapandian has urged the State to immediately address the demands of government doctors who have launched an indefinite hunger strike in Chennai.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Veerapandian said the Government Doctors Associations' Federation has been agitating for the past seven years seeking fulfilment of key demands.
These include granting the fourth time-scale pay on completion of 12 years of service and appointing additional doctors in government hospitals in proportion to patient load. As the demands remain unfulfilled, government doctors have begun an indefinite hunger strike from Wednesday at the Stanley Government Medical College Hospital campus in Chennai to press for their implementation, the statement said.
The CPI state executive called upon the government to hold talks with the leaders of the protesting doctors' associations and take steps to resolve their demands soon.
