In the backdrop of the Manaparai incident, a social activist from Sembiyanatham village of Tharagampatti panchayat in Kulithalai union had reportedly contacted the Collector on Monday and alerted him on a defunct borewell in his village.
The caller said that they had passed on the information to the officials about the abandoned borewell soon after the tragedy of Sujith Wilson, but no action has been initiated so far.
However, Anbalagan goes on saying that there is a BDO (Block Development Officer) for your taluk and you should've gone and met him directly on this issue. Responding to the caller in a very rude manner, the Collector asks, “Do you think that I am a Saravana Bhavan Hotel server to you? Cut the call, you rascal.” The Collector then suspendedthe call.
This had created an uproar among the people and the audio clip began circulating in the social media from Monday late hours.
This is for the second time that Collector Anbalagan has been involved in such a controversy. His response to MP S Jothimani during the Lok Sabha elections had gone viral. After Sujith Wilson's tragic death in Manaparai in Tiruchy, a wide awareness campaign to seal all the defunct borewells has been undertaken on a war-footing manner and many such borewells have been closed by respective district administration after the State Government had appealed to the people to inform the respective District Collectors about all such abandoned borewells.
