Kamal salutes girl scoring 499 in class 10; assures to extend support for driver’s daughter

CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president actor Kamal Haasan on Saturday congratulated V Sofia, the class 10 topper from the State, for her outstanding academic achievement and assured her of support for taking up higher education.

Speaking to her via video call, Haasan praised the young student's determination and pledged guidance and assistance as she charts the next phase of her academic journey.

Sofia, a student from Kokilambalal Higher Secondary School in Jayankodam, secured 499 out of 500 marks, topping the State in the class 10 public examination results, which were released on Friday. She scored 100 in all subjects except Tamil, in which she received 99. Her father is a driver with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.

During the interaction, Haasan said, "Don't limit your dreams. Do seek advice on what and where to study. I will also reach out to people I know on your behalf. I've seen your marks — I never scored such high marks in school, nor have I seen anyone who did! So, it genuinely pleases me to see students like you excel academically. Don't worry about finances; focus on your future."

Speaking to teachers, Haasan also remarked on the critical role educators play in the State's academic success. "It is the teachers who are largely responsible for Tamil Nadu's leading position in the field of education. The entire country talks about the State's educational progress. Please continue to bring out the best in every student — that power lies in your hands."
