MYSORE: The water level at the Kabini dam near Peechanahalli village in HD Kote taluk of Mysuru district has come down by 10 feet as more than 12,000 cusecs of water is being released daily to Tamil Nadu.
The water level, which stood at 2,282 feet last month, was 2,274 feet as of today. With rainfall being low, farmers fear that it will be difficult for the reservoir to fill completely.
They said that if the available water continues to be released to Tamil Nadu, there will be insufficient water for drinking and agriculture in the region. Agitated farmers staged a protest over the issue.
They raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments, demanding that the state government stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu from now on.
Hundreds of farmers gathered near the Kabini dam and attempted to lay siege to it. Police stopped them, arrested some of the protesters and took them away in police vehicles before dispersing the gathering.
