CHENNAI: Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar on Tuesday said there was no conducive environment for the minorities to live peacefully in the regime of the DMK, which came to power by giving false promises.

"The DMK gave false promises to the minorities to get their votes. Till date, the ruling dispensation did not fulfil their promises to the minorities. They were cheated by the DMK, " alleged the former minister after attending the booth level agents meeting at Royapuram constituency.

Former minister K T Pachammal, who was incharge of the constituency, also took part in the meeting.

Only during the AIADMK regime, the minorities had enjoyed safety and security. However, the scenario had changed in the DMK regime as the minorities, Jayakumar said and exuded confidence that the minorities would extend support to the AIADMK party in the forthcoming lok sabha polls.

On the NEET row, Jayakumar said that they were taking a legal course of action to get exemption from NEET.

On the other hand, the government had established training centres for the aspirants of medicine.

However, Chief Minister M K Stalin and State Sports Minister Udhayanidhi has been diverting the attention of the people over the issue, he said, alluding to the DMK's signature campaign against the NEET that was launched two days ago.

Coming down heavily on the health department, the former minister said that the department slipped into "deep sleep". At present, there were complaints of shortage of drugs in government hospitals.

He also hit out at the DMK party that it was a "slave" when it was in alliance with the BJP between 1999 and 2004. They change their colour according to the situation and need for their political gains.
