TIRUCHY: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president KM Kader Mohideen on Saturday called on the DMK leadership to allot at least 16 Assembly seats to Muslim candidates in the upcoming polls, including five seats for the party.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the IUML IT Wing’s state-level meeting, Kader Mohideen said the party had identified winnable constituencies such as Tiruchy East, Thousand Lights, Royapuram, Villivakkam, Papanasam in Thanjavur district and Kadayanallur.
He said the IUML had made a similar demand during the tenure of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and had reiterated it before Chief Minister MK Stalin as well.
The State-level meeting, chaired by IUML State president MS Salman Mohammed, condemned what it termed as the mass deletion of Muslim voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, alleging it to be a conspiracy by the BJP-led Union government.
The meeting also thanked the Tamil Nadu government for conferring the Thagaisal Tamilar award on Kader Mohideen.
