Inspector suspended, booked over alleged misconduct in Tirunelveli

MADURAI: Tirunelveli district police inspector Arun Kumar has been suspended and departmental action initiated against him following a complaint alleging misconduct.

According to the complaint, Arun Kumar had an improper relationship with a woman while serving at the Teppakulam police station in Madurai city.

The complaint further noted that he had harassed the woman after allegedly distancing himself from her when he was posted at Veeravanallur police station.

A preliminary inquiry into the complaint found prima facie substance in the allegations, following which Tirunelveli district Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Sastri, IPS, recommended departmental action against Arun Kumar to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range.

Meanwhile, based on the woman's complaint, the Tirunelveli Rural All-Women Police Station registered a criminal case against Arun Kumar on August 21.

Following a recommendation by the top official, the inspector has been placed under suspension. Further investigation into the case is under way.
