State Food Minister R Kamaraj met host of Union Ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in Delhi and submitted a letter written by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. In the letter, Chief Minister has demanded the Centre to increase kerosene allocation to the State.
The monthly allocation of kerosene for Tamil Nadu has been reduced from 16,148 kilolitres to 10,764 kilolitres per month from July. Due to the reduction, there is a shortage in the supply to the people, said Chief Minister. He also said that there are 1.99 crore Aadhaar-seeded family cards in the State and out of them, 51.8 lakh card holders do not have LPG connection and 74.9 lakh card holders have only one LPG connection.
Though Centre does not have the policy of providing kerosene to LPG connection holders, the State government provides kerosene to single LPG connection holders. The State has been supplying 3 litres of kerosene per month to non-LPG connection holders and 1 litre per month to single LPG connection holders.
As a result, State government has to supply a minimum of 23,035 kilolitres per month but the Centre has been reducing the allocation consistently. Since 2011, there were 19 reductions in allocation of kerosene and the share of the State has gone down from 52,806 kilolitres to 10,764 kilolitres per month, said Chief Minister.
