Unlike in the past, it was not loaded political statement, but Vijay’s participation in a DMK family function that has kept tongues wagging in the political circles. Accompanied by his wife Sangeetha, the actor attended the betrothal of Stalin’s sister and ‘Murasoli’ editor Selvam’s granddaughter, which was held a hotel in MRC Nagar in Chennai.

As much as the participation, his brief interaction with DMK president MK Stalin and treasurer Duraimurugan has drawn the attention of opposition members and DMK members alike. Photograph of the actor exchanging pleasantries with the DMK president and treasurer, which came at a time when some of the pro-Tamil groups were projecting him as the next superstar of Tamil tinsel world and politics, has gained significant traction on social media.

While DMK insiders have silently celebrated the rendezvous, which was more personal than political, fans of the actor had a gala time on Twitter. Both camps have a reason to interpret the meeting to their convenience, for it happens in the backdrop of a few AIADMK leaders downplaying the impact of Vijay taking a plunge. AIADMK had reacted to speculation about Vijay’s political entry after Naam Tamizhar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman called Vijay the brightest political prospect in Tamil Nadu to undermine actor Rajinikanth. Understandably, DMK insiders privy to the meeting said the function was strictly private and cannot attribute political motives.
