Citing the clarification issued by Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, Stalin sought to know from the CM if senior officials were informed about the Governor’s visits. Specifically, Stalin asked Palaniswami to explain to the House if the chief secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Administration were taking instructions from the Governor?
However, Speaker P Dhanapal, who allowed Stalin to raise the issue, declined any debate on the Governor in the House. Dhanapal considered it sufficient to allay the Opposition’s doubts himself and said that as a constitutional authority, the governor was entitled to go on tours in the state. An annoyed Stalin “strongly condemned” the CM for not replying on the issue and marshalled his MLAs out of the House. Moments later, Congress MLAs followed suit.
Talking to media representatives outside the Assembly, Stalin said the clarification suggested that Raj Bhavan had requested the CS and CRA to organise the meeting with officials, but the statements of neither the government nor the CM have thus far clarified if the Governor was holding the meeting with the government’s permission.
Wondering why the state government has not kept people informed on the issue of Raj Bhavan requesting the chief secretary to organise the meetings, the LoP said that the Governor’s office denied holding reviews in an earlier clarification, but the most recent one suggested that it requested the CS and CRA to organise reviews.
“I sought a reply from the CM on the issue, but he remained a mute spectator,” Stalin remarked, adding that it was evident that the state has a government controlled by the Centre and the Governor. “Tamil Nadu has dual governments. One headed by Palaniswami and another by the Governor. EPS regime is a servile regime.
Governor’s is a master’s regime,” Stalin quipped, a few days after the Governor’s office had cautioned that any attempt to overawe the Governor by criminal force would result in imprisonment up to seven years.
