CHENNAI: Minister for HR & CE PK Sekarbabu on Wednesday slammed Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi that he has been serving as a “stumbling block” for the development of Tamil Nadu and functioning like a BJP state president and RSS member and following their ideology of divide and rule in the name of religion and caste.

Ravi has not been functioning like a Governor. Instead, he has been operating like an RSS member and state president of the BJP and following their ideology of “divisive” politics.

He has been indulging in dividing people in the name of religion and caste, said the minister while responding to a question on the Governor’s recent remark that the state was trying to erase the memories of the freedom fighters.

Calling Ravi a "barrier” to the development of the state, the minister said that the DMK government would destroy the barriers and take the state in the path of development.

The DMK regime has been functioning like a “governance of spirituality”, the minister said and listed out the programmes implemented by the HR & CE department since the DMK came to power. He noted that six Rajagopuram have been constructed, while renovation and restoration of seven temple chariots were taken up at Rs 7.58 crore.

Several defunct temple cars have been restored in the last two years and take out on processions during temple festivals. The department has also taken up work to build Rajagopuram in Kurungaleeswarar temple in Koyambedu.

In the present DMK regime, the department organised and performed consecrations in as many as 1,093 temples and temple properties worth Rs 5,472 crore have been retrieved from encroachers, he further said.
