COIMBATORE: Three cops were placed under suspension on Tuesday after a probe in a drug trafficking case involving another cop exposed their link in the Nilgiris.
The three cops, Abisekaran of Erumadu police station, Mayakannan of Kotagiri police station and Santhakumar of Masinagudi police station, were placed under suspension by Superintendent of Police NS Nisha after it was found they procured and consumed the narcotic substance during duty hours.
The action comes following the arrest of one Cruze (26), from Ooty for selling ganja during a routine vehicle check on January 21. Inquiries with him revealed the involvement of Nazeer Ahmed (26), a cop attached to the Ooty Central police station. Based on his confession, the police tracked down one Mohanasundaram from Kerala and seized 17.5 kg of ganja from his possession.
All three were then remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, Ooty Town Traffic sub-inspector Arun and Jayakumar, a special wing constable from Ooty Central Police Station, were transferred to Gudalur and Devala stations for failing to alert senior officials on the ganja network.
In a further fallout of the case, an inquiry revealed that three more cops, Abisekaran, Mayakannan and Santhakumar, consumed the contraband during duty hours. They were all placed under suspension, and further inquiry is under way.
